Does Aniimo Use AI?
Updated 2026-09-22 · What Pawprint Studio has said, in its own words
Short answer: the Aniimo creatures, the world of Idyll and the game's text are human-made — Pawprint Studio said so in a January 2026 developer Q&A, and again after the July 2026 ad controversy. AI has been used in three other places: behind the scenes in development (testing), in marketing (AI-assisted Instagram ads the studio pulled and apologised for), and in a voice feature planned for early 2027 (NVIDIA ACE). Nothing in the version you can play today is AI-generated, and the Steam page carries no AI disclosure.
What Pawprint Studio actually said
The official Aniimo Discord runs semi-regular developer Q&As. When the question came up in January 2026, the studio answered it directly and asked that fans hold them to it:
“We believe that people will only love something that comes from human hands, not artificial ones, and our development team at Pawprint Studio is full of very talented humans!”
“AI will NOT be used to design our Aniimo, nor will any AI prototypes be used in Idyll.”
“AI is now helping us in several ways (e.g. testing) but it's not imagining the world of Aniimo for us.”
Note the split in that answer: the denial covers game content — creature design and Idyll. The admission covers development tooling, with testing given as the example.
The July 2026 ads, and the apology
At the end of July 2026, players noticed Instagram ads for Aniimo whose visuals did not match the game. The official r/Aniimo account posted a statement and took the ads down:
“We're truly sorry for the disappointment and frustration these advertisements caused. The means via which they were produced are absolutely not representative of how we are making the game itself.”
“The advertisements have been removed from all of our channels, although some examples persist due to technical limitations that are beyond our control.”
The statement draws the line the whole AI debate turns on: the ads were produced one way, the game another.
Testing AI is not generative AI
The wording of the January Q&A matters here. The studio described AI helping “in several ways (e.g. testing)” while denying it was “imagining the world of Aniimo”. Automated testing and physics simulation have been standard practice in game development for years, and they are not the same thing as generating art, voice or story.
A lot of the argument around Aniimo comes from treating those two as one question. They are not, and the studio's own answer separates them.
NVIDIA ACE: the one AI feature that is coming
At gamescom 2026, NVIDIA announced that Aniimo will support NVIDIA ACE in early 2027. This is the only AI feature confirmed for the game itself, and it is not in the build you can play now.
“Instead of navigating traditional menus, players will interact with their Aniimo using natural language. Chat with them, teach them new skills, and dispatch them to gather resources via voice inputs.”
“The NVIDIA ACE integration is powered by a locally-hosted, fine-tuned Nemotron Small Language Model (SLM) running on a player's GPU.”
Three things worth keeping straight: it is a voice interface rather than a generator of art or story; it runs locally on your GPU rather than in the cloud; and it is optional and dated to early 2027.
Was the Steam store description AI-written?
This is the original accusation, and it is not about the creatures. On 16 September 2026, a Steam community thread opened with:
“The store description was clearly AI written, how much AI was used in the main game and why isn't it disclosed?”
The thread drew over 70 replies, and not all of them agreed with the premise. The most-upvoted line of argument runs the other way:
“As far as I can tell, there is no AI used in the game. If there were, it would be disclosed on the Steam store page.”
Pawprint Studio has not commented publicly on the description itself. Steam store pages written in marketing prose often read as flat, which is worth keeping in mind before treating the wording as evidence either way.
Why people still doubt it
Two separate reasons, and they get merged together in most discussions:
- The ads. Marketing footage that looked unlike the game cost the studio trust, and that damage does not disappear when the ads come down.
- The store description. Readers find the wording on Steam reads like generated text — which is a perception about the copy, not evidence about the creatures, art or voice work.
Timeline
- January 2026 — developer Q&A on Discord: no AI in creature design or Idyll, AI used in development “in several ways (e.g. testing)”.
- July 2026 — AI-assisted Instagram ads pulled, with a public apology from the official Reddit account.
- 26 August 2026 — NVIDIA announces Aniimo support for NVIDIA ACE at gamescom.
- 16 September 2026 — Aniimo launches; the Steam thread on AI use follows the same day.
- Early 2027 — NVIDIA ACE expected to go live.

FAQ
Did Aniimo use AI?
Partly. Pawprint Studio says AI was not used to design the Aniimo creatures or the world of Idyll. The studio has said AI helps in development 'in several ways (e.g. testing)', and that AI-assisted marketing ads ran in July 2026 before being pulled.
Are Aniimo's creatures AI-generated?
Pawprint Studio says no. Its January 2026 developer Q&A states: 'AI will NOT be used to design our Aniimo, nor will any AI prototypes be used in Idyll.' Every creature has a number, element and role in our full Aniimo creature list.
Is there an AI disclosure on Aniimo's Steam page?
No. Aniimo's Steam store page carries no generative AI disclosure. Valve requires developers to disclose generative AI use, so the absence of one is a signal — but it is not proof about how any individual asset was made.
Was the Aniimo Steam store description written by AI?
We don't know, and Pawprint Studio has not addressed it. The claim comes from a Steam community thread asking 'The store description was clearly AI written, how much AI was used in the main game and why isn't it disclosed?' Other players in the same thread argued the opposite — that no AI disclosure means no AI in the game.
What is NVIDIA ACE, and does it bring AI into Aniimo?
NVIDIA ACE is a voice feature announced at gamescom 2026 and planned for early 2027 — it is not in the current build. It lets you talk to your Aniimo, teach it skills and send it to gather resources by voice. It runs a locally-hosted, fine-tuned Nemotron Small Language Model on your GPU, so it is a voice interface rather than an AI that generates art, creatures or story.
Are Aniimo's voice acting and music human-made?
Pawprint Studio has not made a separate public statement about the voice cast or the soundtrack. Its January 2026 Q&A was about creature design and the world of Idyll, and the Steam page carries no AI disclosure.
